Moving house? What happens to your broadband

Moving house? Relocation fees, notice periods and what happens if your new address is not covered, for Unifi, TIME, Maxis and CelcomDigi, plus a moving checklist.

Updated 24 Oct 2026. Facts checked against each provider's official website.

Quick answer

Check coverage at the new address first. Unifi relocates for free when it covers the new home, and your contract carries on. Maxis charges RM300 and your contract also carries on. CelcomDigi charges RM200 and starts a new 24-month contract. If your provider does not reach the new home, switch to one that does before you move.

First, check coverage at the new address

Every provider can only move your service if it covers your new home. Check before you tell anyone you are moving: we can check all four providers at the new address, free.

What each provider says about moving

Provider Moving your fibre
Maxis Give one month’s notice. If the new address is covered, Maxis charges a RM300 relocation fee and your existing contract carries on. If your contract has already ended, you can have the fee waived by starting a new 24-month contract. If the new address is not covered, Maxis may end the service and an early termination charge can apply.
CelcomDigi A RM200 relocation fee per request, and your contract restarts at 24 months. Bring the router and equipment to the new address.
Unifi Relocation is free if Unifi covers the new address, your contract carries on, and it takes about 7 to 14 business days; extra cabling may cost more. Unifi’s FAQ also says you are not charged an early termination fee if Unifi is not available at your new address. See our step-by-step Unifi relocation guide.
TIME TIME’s 12 and 24-month contracts are tied to your service address, and relocation is subject to coverage at the new address.

Fees and policies change, so we confirm the current terms with your provider before you move.

A moving checklist

  1. Check your contract end date. If you are close to the end, it may be cheaper to wait and sign up fresh at the new place.
  2. Check coverage at the new address for your current provider and the alternatives.
  3. Book the move or the new installation early. Maxis, for example, asks for one month’s notice for a relocation.
  4. Keep the router and equipment. Providers usually want it brought to the new address.
  5. Overlap rather than gap. If you are switching providers, get the new line installed before you end the old one.

Moving to a rental or a short stay?

5G home WiFi needs no installation and the router moves with you, as long as 5G reaches the new place. TIME also sells 12-month and no-contract fibre plans. See fibre vs 5G home WiFi.

Questions

Do I have to pay an early termination fee if I move?

It depends on the provider and on whether it covers your new address. Unifi’s FAQ says you are not charged if Unifi is not available at the new address. Maxis says an early termination charge may apply if it cannot provide service at the new address. Ask us before you cancel anything.

Can I switch provider when I move?

Yes. Moving is a good time to compare. If your old contract still has months left, weigh the termination charge against what you would save.
